Our Strategy

We are passing through a time of expansion both in terms of numbers served and range of service. This expansion has come about because of both our own wish to grow and a dramatic increase in the numbers of refugees resettled in Houston. In 2009 we resettled double the number of refugees that we served in 2008. As our resettlement numbers grow, we also plan to expand our capacity for health service delivery, microenterprise lending, and to remodel our building. We envision the Alliance building as a LEED-certified energy efficient center for local nonprofits and small businesses including a cafe which offers internet access to area residents who could not otherwise afford the service. Besides improving the major asset of the organization, the building project enables us to better fulfill our mission of helping improve quality of life for non-refugee residents of the Gulfton neighborhood, a neighborhood which is densely populated with low English proficient (LEP), low-income, immigrants. We are increasing placing tenants who provide medical services and we are seeking several health service grants including one which focuses on perinatal care and another which focuses on HIV prevention. We are also in the process of expanding our microenterprise lending program to increase opportunity for low-income area residents and refugees to develop as entrepreneurs.
